ARGENTINA – The Argentinean government has announced an increase in pension payments to retirees of 16.9%, the second rise this year.
President Cristina Fernández yesterday said the increase will come into effect on 1 September. This will increase the minimum pension to ARS1,091.50 ($277.5) from ARS895.20.
In March, the government upped the pension payment by 8.2%, bringing the total increase this year to over 25%. (Global Pensions; February 10, 2010)

Since 2003, pension payments have increased 550% as a result of decisions made by President Fernández and her predecessor and husband, Néstor Kirchner.
